Abstract: This qualitative case study research explored the use of a variety of mobile applications integrated into literacy centres and literature circles. Three classes of grade 6 students and 1 class of grade 7 students in Ontario, Canada used mobile devices and a variety of digital tools to engage in literature study based on the themes of identity and bullying. In this paper we share the design of the two units, the activities the students participated in and samples of the students’ work. Our early findings suggest that the use of this pedagogical approach helped educators to see how literacy teaching with children’s literature and explorations of social justice and identity issues could become a transformative practice for educators and students.
