Abstract: The Florida Institute of Education at the University of North Florida (FIE) participated in a school district/early learning coalition/university collaborative initiative to provide literacy professional development incorporating iPads for prekindergarten and elementary teachers. The goal of the initiative included strengthening teachers’ use of research-based instructional practices designed to enhance children’s language and literacy development by providing professional learning. Following the professional development, state measures indicated reading with accuracy, reading comprehension, and vocabulary as areas of strength for second grade students, while vocabulary and listening comprehension were identified as areas of strength for Kindergarten students. FIE facilitators will discuss opportunities for learning a multitude of topics related to effective iPad implementation.
