Abstract: Numerous scholars and political scientists have espoused the importance of both an active and informed citizenry. However, while an important role of social studies educators is the integration of civic education in K-12 schools, the focus on developing both civically minded and participatory individuals has diminished in recent years. One way this may be addressed is through the use of emerging technological tools, which evidence has illustrated can be useful in supporting the development of an active and informed citizenry. In this presentation, we will discuss the results of a mixed method study designed to examine the effectiveness of the integration of emerging technological tools to support the development of civically engaged students. The rationale, methods, data collection and analysis, and implications (for practice, research, and policy) will all be addressed.
