Leading Through Changing Times: Breaking Down Barriers to Get Results - A Rural School District's Successful iPad Project
Abstract: In the beginning, I had a dream. It was to provide a 1:1 device for every student at Highland School District and have that technology be used as a tool and not an add-on. While it is a work in progress, what I did not expect was the other ways it improved our district. This session will share the plan for implementing a 1:1 device, how we were able to get the staff on board, improve staff morale, including the paraprofessionals, and move a rural school into the 21st century. Currently, Highland has 1:1 iPads for every student in Kindergarten through the fifth grade. They are currently looking at purchasing Chromebooks for sixth through the twelfth grade. We went from a school with very little technology to a model technology school for our rural area in little more than a year and a half. This is an example where the plan was to move to a 1:1 iPad program and the iPads are actually being used on a regular basis.
