Abstract: Improvements in technology like web-based video and audio conferencing platforms promise the possibility of interactive classrooms unbound by spatial constraints. Web-conferencing software can also enable a new kind of hybrid course in which local and distance-education students participate simultaneously in onsite courses.Attending to the ways in which participants orient to the technology and to each other through the technology are areas which merit further exploration.
