Abstract: With the explosive growth of the World Wide Web, institutions are challenged like never before to monitor academic integrity and protect intellectual property. Dishonesty, plagiarism, and cheating abound throughout the academic community. Older, more sterile forms of ethics codes have not provided optimal student compliance and participation. This paper examines a proposed, new revolutionary code of conduct model for online schools which creates a sense of trust and partnership between students, their institution, and the learning community. (This system model can be modified for virtual online K-12 schools as well.)The PACT system utilizes the psychological sense of belongingness along with membership benefits for participation and conformity which in turn creates a greater propensity for compliance, compared to former standardized, disciplinary codes.
