Abstract: Our digitally-connected world is demanding educational opportunities within and without university walls that are engaging, relevant and accessible. Faculty in institutions of higher education are being asked to retool and develop active learning environments for students. Administrators are challenged to support faculty development in the areas of using mobile devices, social media, and digital video (to name a few resources) to effect this change. This paper details the process and results associated with an initiative entitled “Technology Boot Camp.” This initiative was an attempt to provide powerfully relevant professional development to faculty members willing to take the risk in redesigning their instructional practices. Beginning evidence suggest that the boot camp strategy was impactful in effecting change in university classrooms, as faculty members embraced contemporary models of teaching and learning.
