Abstract: Synchronous meetings provide opportunities for meaningful interactions, the introduction of multiple perspectives for solving problems, and a sense of social presence (Park & Bonk, 2007). This presentation discusses the potential of using synchronous meetings in conjunction with a case study project conducted by students enrolled in one online teacher education course. Instructional design elements needed to effectively develop this element of the course will be identified. Focus will be on what worked on a practical level, including challenges encountered. A framework for other educators seeking to implement synchronous sessions will be provided.
