Abstract: Along with the internet’s many advantages, there is a growing awareness of the risks involved in its use for children and youth. Educational programs towards e-safety and intelligent use of the internet have recently been developed in several countries. Which is the optimal pedagogical approach to teaching the subject?.Trainees at an Israeli College of Education developed and taught educational programs concerning intelligent use of the internet. The research examined the trainees’ pedagogical approaches their advantages and disadvantages, through a quantitative and qualitative analysis of trainees’ answers to reflections questionnaires. Differences in the trainees' approaches were found according to their courses of study. Advantages and disadvantages of negative, positive and balanced approaches were discovered and discussed. A systemic optimal approach, based on mutual experience from media education, ICT's education and critical thinking education, is recommended.
