Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to share how communication technology was used as an alternative method of observation in the K-12 schools in a form of distance education format for teacher preparation classes. This technology involved a two-way audio-visual conferencing system has been used for ten years. A pilot study was conducted in the beginning years using this conferencing system that compared the experiences of university students (teacher candidates) who had both remote and on-site observations, to determine if there is a difference in the quality of methods of observation.
