Abstract: Technological advances have required translators and other language mediators to be part of a large network of agents and communities of practice. Social networking has become a key element when developing, teaching or using new tools. Translators have adopted new roles and developed new skills and their workspace has been redesigned. Translation processes, teaching and learning of translation technologies have become collaborative, interactive, “open” or virtual. Translation technology developers have started to take into account the role (collaborative) learning plays in the creation of value. After reflecting upon the social component as an integral part of translation processes, we present different e-learning and e-training solutions in the translation field, with a particular interest in LinguisTech. We conclude by stressing the idea that when using translation technologies, users need to learn how to learn, which means their work should be “work invested with reflexivity”.
