Abstract: This mixed methods study examines usability, knowledge acquisition, and preferences of learners’ experience in a real museum visitation and a 3dimensional virtual learning environment. Data was collected in the fall of 2011 using different methods such as pre- and posttests, surveys, direct unobtrusive observations and semi-structured individual interviews. Two groups of participants experienced the museum visitation, but only participants from one of the two groups had access to the 3Dvirtual museum previous to their visit to the real one.
