An Ancient Ideology of Equal Education vs. Technology Implementation in the21st Century: What if Confucius was still alive?
Abstract: Equality of Education is not new to us, but few of us know that Confucius brought it up and practiced in his own teaching more than 2000 years ago in China. Confucius’ idea of equal education is “in education there should be no class distinctions.” Now we are at the 21st century. Equal education is still challenged although much progress has been made. The challenges include the equal access to educational opportunities, resources, the equal treatment and learning support in schools, and the equal potential success openings for all students. Answering the question of “What if Confucius was still alive,” this paper is to discuss what Confucius did to inspire the equal education in ancient time, what challenges we are facing for making the education to be equal for all today, and how technology can be utilized to enhance the concept of equal education in the 21st century.
