Abstract: One way to augment the use of educational research in teaching is to develop teachers’ ability to use research findings to innovate in their practice. A cognitive task analysis was performed in order to create a model of pedagogical innovation that determines the cognitive activities involved in determining an appropriate context for innovation in teaching, understanding research, and using findings in teaching practice. To strengthen the bridge between research and practice, the model was coupled with a model of pedagogical reasoning describing how teachers plan instruction.
