Engaging In-service Teachers in Online Collaborative Environments for Professional Development

Abstract: This paper reports on a continuation study conducted with in-service teachers designed to promote technology integration through online collaborative communities of practice. At the conclusion of the study the in-service teachers created a sustaining and vibrant online community with no further support from the sponsoring institution or researchers. This study examines the support levels, participant factors, and tools and platforms that help to create a successful and self-sustaining online community.
