Abstract: The bystander effect is a theory which explains why bystanders do not intervene when help is needed. This article focuses on the bystander effect within the school system and discusses the roles of the school counselor and the school leaders in dealing with this issue. The article also details the impact of the bystander effect on school violence, bullying, and cyberbullying.
