Abstract: This article focuses on our efforts to study the collective development of an online community of teachers. Building on an existing framework for analyzing collective activity in face to face community, we delineate the aspects of the framework that are transferrable to an online environment and constraints that call for further analysis. These constraints refer to issues that are specific to online environments such as defining “Norms of Interaction” and other issues such as access to posts, time “on task,” and response choices.
