Abstract: Google SketchUp is a free program that was developed for the purpose of creating 3D models. SketchUp can be used to support student learning through an inquiry approach. This session will focus on basic tools of the program and how these features supported student learning about prisms and pyramids. Elementary education majors were able to use specific tools in SketchUp to reconcile issues of perception as well as to investigate the various dimensions within a given pyramid (height, slant heights(s) and edges). The mathematics content of this session is relevant for mathematics teachers at the 6-12 level and mathematics teacher educators.
