Designing Optimal Supply Chain Strategies: A Teaching Case
Abstract: Supply chain management (SCM) is playing an ever-increasing role in the global marketplace. SCM information based planning systems are being increasingly used to help improve the flow and efficiency of the supply chain and reduce inventory. Information technology is a key ingredient in ensuring the successful implementation of a world class supply chain strategy. Teaching cases present one approach for inculcating students and future managers into the global dynamics of supply chain management. The learning objectives for this teaching case are three-fold: 1) To appreciate the role of information technology in global supply chain management, 2) To grasp the functional dimensions of the SCM implementation strategy and 3) To outline how supply chain management know-how can be integrated into the business curriculum. This presentation will include a demonstration of how Dashboard technology can support the teaching of SCM principles in a global environment.
