Abstract: There has been an explosion in the growth of online education as a result of needs of 21st century learners and emerging educational technologies. Many traditional universities are now offering a number of courses and, in many cases, entire programs online. The optimal merging of technology and pedagogy in an online course is very important for its teaching success. Of more importance is using the appropriate tools for the appropriate audiences and ensuring that student engagement and learning takes place.
