Abstract: This study aims at understanding instructor’s perceptions and experiences in relation to publishing their course materials. To do this end, semi-structured interviews with purposefully selected six instructors were conducted. The main research questions of this study were what experiences do the instructors have in relation to publishing course materials, and what are the perceptions of instructors about sharing course materials freely? Results indicated that one of the most critical barriers that interviewees emphasize is lack of consciousness about ethical issues among instructors. On the other hand, forming communities around courses, presence of popular courses, contribution of departments of educational faculty, and providing technological help were the main strategies highlighted by interviewers to accelerate the diffusion of this movement. When we examine rationale for sharing course materials, most of the participants indicated that we should share our materials since not sharing conflict with the nature of science.
