Developing TPCK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) in Teacher Preparation Programs
Abstract: This paper describes a practical, field-tested way to develop TPCK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) in a teacher preparation program. It presents an array of technology-based project types that can be used in methods courses, in educational technology courses, and during fieldwork and student teaching/ internship and a way to integrate and spiral TPCK development throughout a program. In this program, preservice teachers learn to teach using technology-based projects as they are taught requisite technology skills, then utilize the same project types to design and implement content specific instruction with PK-12 students.
