Technology Integration Potential of Physical World Hyperlinks for Teacher Preparation Programs
Abstract: “Physical world hyperlinking” occurs when a tangible object is connected to an on-line resource. In Japan, 2D barcode camera phone scanning is a popular way to accomplish that process. A cell phone equipped with a camera takes a picture of the barcode and the browser automatically is directed to a website designed specifically for that location. The barcode images contain QR Codes (Quick Response) and can be generated and read with free software. Session will demonstrate the hardware / software needed to bring together real space and mobile space. Focus will be on integration ideas for teacher preparation programs. For example, teachers can link web pages with supplemental information for special populations (i.e. American Sign Language interpretations for deaf students) to classroom artifacts or create enhanced fieldtrip visits through an interactive map.
