Abstract: This article examined six empirical studies about the relationships between self-directed learning and academic performance in the Web-based learning environment. Three cases were collected from U.S and the other three were conducted in the Asian area. The main purpose of this study was to identify whether the self-directed learning is a key factor leading to successful academic performance in the Web-based learning environment. In-depth analysis and discussion for each case study were addressed.
