Abstract: This paper describes the pedagogical value of teaching rubrics, through the simulation of actual IT business practices, to undergraduate students at Eastern Michigan University. In replicating the acquisition of a telecommunication technology system, the simulation takes place across two courses. The Communication Transmission Systems course has students create a fictional telecommunications company and respond to an RFP adapted from industry. The Telephone Technology course creates a version of the RFP and evaluates the proposal responses from the previous course.
