Abstract: Simulations are fast becoming a popular way to use technology to engage users in learning about and critically reflecting upon workplace practices and experiences. This paper reports on our development and implementation of an online classroom simulation (ClassSim) created with the support of a large grant from the Australian Research Council entitled: Investigating a classroom simulation designed to support pre-service teacher decision making in planning and implementing literacy teaching (DP0344011). Our discussion is focused on pedagogical, technical and organisational considerations that have shaped the use of the software with more than 500 pre-service teachers.
