Abstract: With the advent of “No Child Left Behind” and high stakes testing, teachers often feel they must cover the most material in the least amount of time. This often leads to the use of direct instruction. This study uses the theory of constructivism to turn students into real life historians as they learn about colonial life during the 1700’s. Results showed that students were more actively engaged in their own learning and were more motivated to work as a team to present their information accurately.
