Abstract: The presenters critique two of the most conventional distance education technologies: (1) course management software (e.g., Blackboard, e-College, WebCT); and (2) the World Wide Web. Those technologies introduce unnecessary complexity and limit real-time communication between student and teacher. To address the limitations of those technologies, the presenters offer an alternative e-Learning environment that uses software typically installed on microcomputers.
