Improving Performance through Reflection: Integrating Digital Video Tools into Teacher Preparation
Abstract: This paper describes the interplay of the main components with the planning, implementation, dissemination, and reflective processes involved in the creation of the digital video portfolios. The process of editing video to complete a specific and meaningful task provides an opportunity to engage with the content at a critical level. Even with simple and accessible tools, creation of quality products that demonstrate deep reflection on practice requires a well-established support network. Technologies used include digital video camcorders, simple video editing tools standard on Apple and Microsoft operating systems, and DVD-Video for storage and dissemination. This paper is presented from the perspective of teacher education, but the model is appropriate for any professional program that requires portfolio assessment and encourages reflection on performance.
