Abstract: The Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education advocates a technologically proficient teaching force.Traditionally preservice elementary teachers resist using technology, even suggesting it is developmentally inappropriate. To remedy this an Elementary Education Methods Class for Mathematics, Science and Technology required the use of technology for learning course content, but did not require it in field experiences with children. This was done in an effort to improve technological skills and attitudes of preservice teachers before use with children. This was accomplished by the required use of email, Microsoft Power Point, and Blackboard5. Preservice teachers indicated that their ability to use computer technology had improved after completing the course. They felt more comfortable using technology and would use it in their elementary classrooms.
