Abstract: Cheating has been an area of concern in education for decades, especially at the college level. A particular area of concern is the increasing reports of the rise of cheating and the cheating potential in digital education. As online learning has become an integral part of education, especially after the most significant pandemic of the 21st century, educators across all levels and settings and modalities are concerned about integrity in the digital learning environment. The purpose of this study was to explore cheating behaviors in an online environment, and determine students’ perceptions and motivation towards digital cheating. A survey methodology with qualitative questions was conducted with college level students enrolled in online classes. Ninety-five percent of the students admitted to cheating. Implications and recommendations for mitigating cheating in digital education are discussed.
