Abstract: Across the U. S. high school students have the option of enrolling in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that help students build 21st century skills and connect those skills to real-world problems. College and career preparation programs promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and encourage students to pursue a STEM career. Integration of meaningful STEM education helps students understand the relationship between their learning and real-world problems, are highly motivated, and interested in STEM education. Students in CTE pathways have the opportunity to challenge themselves with rigorous courses and prepare themselves for the STEM workforce. This paper examines the relationship between college and career preparation programs and students’ interest in a STEM career.
