Challenges k-12 schools have faced during COVID-19 distance learning
Abstract: The unprecedented school closures caused unplanned distance learning plans that were not planned thoroughly by considering both the potential risks of safeguarding against and the potential opportunities to leverage. With every crisis comes profound challenges, and transformation opportunities have shown that it is possible to build back better (Winthrop, 2020). However, our experience showed that even schools had an opportunity to respond better in the fall semester, the current practices are not perfectly fit the needs of families, students, and teachers. We know teachers who had to decide to quit teaching due to their at-risk family members' safety concerns. We failed to accommodate our teachers and families' needs by supporting them and providing them with adequate support.
