Abstract: To foster the ability to use the results of subject learning in an integrated manner to solve problems, Japan has established the Period of Integrated Study (PIS) at each school level. However, even 20 years after the establishment of this system, its purpose has yet to be fulfilled. Matsuda (2020) proposed a new backward design for improving the current situation. The key factor is to design exploratory activities in each subject to connect subject areas with PIS.
