Teaching a Water Waste Treatment Course During the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Experience of a Colombian Higher Education Institution
Abstract: In Colombian Higher Education Institutions face to face instruction is the main tradition. Few university faculty are trained on using technology in classroom instruction, and online learning is not widespread. When COVID-19 hit the country in March of 2020, the educational system crumbled. Antonio Nariño University shut down and faculty started to prepare to teach remotely. Like in many countries around the world, Colombia was not ready to face the pandemic, and providing quality education became challenging in both K12 and higher education. This presentation will discuss how an engineering professor at Antonio Nariño University was successful at teaching a traditional Water Waste Treatment class during the pandemic, despite all the challenges by adopting the SOLE Method. Open source technology was used to engage students and keep learning moving forward during the most significant pandemic of the 21st Century.
