Abstract: When Hurricane Michael hit the Panhandle of the State of Florida in October of 2018, its damage left lasting effects on the educators of a school affected by its destruction. An open-ended questionnaire completed by 11 K-12 teachers in one charter school in the Florida Panhandle was disseminated to gain a better understanding of the first-hand experiences of the teachers following a hurricane. The responses indicated the need for a deeper understanding of the compassion and empathy a teacher must exhibit following a natural disaster and the toll it takes on the educator who is also managing to cope with and survive the disaster as well.
