Educational Technology Professional Development Opportunities in South African Schools

Abstract: The South African educational landscape is very diverse. As a result, students enrolled in government-funded and private school settings receive different levels of access to technological resources. Further, educators in government-funded and private schools often have dissimilar access to technology training. To ensure that educators in government-funded schools receive opportunities to attend vital professional development sessions, school administers may need to be creative in developing and providing educators access to teacher trainings. This presentation will provide an overview of how a South African government-funded school partnered with a non-governmental organization and university to provide professional development workshops focused on educational technology integration. An overview of the workshops will be provided and educators’ reflections will be discussed.
