Abstract: This presentation will demonstrate how faculty members can create technology-driven assignments that will develop students’ global competencies and, thereby, enhance their civic engagement. The presentation will begin with a discussion of the need to develop students’ global competencies and prepare them to become engaged global citizens. First the presenter will discuss the skills and knowledge typically associated with global competency. Then, the main body of the presentation will describe how virtual team and service-learning projects can be used to develop students’ global competencies and prepare them for the challenge of global citizenship. The presenter will describe specific international and domestic virtual team and service-learning projects and suggest ways these projects can be adapted across the disciplines. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of the benefits to students.
