Systems Thinking in Makerspace Design
Brief Paper
ID: 55690
Abstract: This practice-based paper is a systems-thinking approach to makerspace design in K-12 education. With a vast array of research and development in the area of makerspaces, it is critical that commonality is defined in successful makerspace implementations in order to provide schools with an approach to getting started. Through both research and practice, successful trends become apparent and help define the system design that was created as a result of this process. Defining the issues that arise as a result of implementations and the questions that will help guide the designer of such a space to avoid these pitfalls ensure the future makerspaces will begin with a strong foundation.
