Abstract: Computational thinking is an emerging concept for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. It is a way of thinking about solving problems. Computer programming is often used to support computational thinking development. However, traditional computer programming needs systematic education and comprehensive understanding on a computer programming language. In this project, we proposed to use mobile robot for developing computational thinking. We developed a new method for developing computational thinking via cozmo robot programming. In compared to traditional computer programming, mobile robot based programming enables precollege and undergraduate students to master computational thinking efficiently and effectively via both of programming and physical components of robot. Both of computational thinking and engineering thinking are developed through the proposed platform. Learning evaluations show that the proposed method using both of graphical programming and text-based programing on mobile robot is able to develop computational thinking well for precollege and undergraduate students. The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) in partnership with large Houston area independent school districts and the Gulf Coast Workforce Board (GCWB) proposed a multi-age approach to mentoring, training, and educating (STEM) students from underrepresented populations (CUR, 2013; Insala, 2016).
