Abstract: The higher education landscape is changing, and many universities are finding creative, connective, and collaborative ways of reinventing their place in the higher education space. SNHU, Purdue, and Arizona State University are among the leaders parsing out pathways and designing flexible learning systems that meet the needs of today’s non-traditional learners. Behind the scenes of these leading universities is a cadre of faculty and staff executing on promises for transformation and innovation. This paper sketches out the successes of several universities in the emerging field of higher education redesign with the goal of exploring the behind the scene designers, builders, and executers of big visions for the future of education. The current study explores the challenges and successes of those executing a slice of the transformational vision linked to non-degree continual learning at a major research university in the desert southwest.
