Cybersecurity: Phishing Attack Mitigation and Prevention for Higher Education
Abstract: This paper presented different approaches to deter and stop future phishing-based attacks that Higher Education is facing today. The ability to stop phishing attacks can be difficult, but there are effective ways to lower the number of successful phishing emails that University users may receive. Of the options discussed, the best was to stop the email from reaching the user in the first place. The next layer would be to block any and all active links in these messages from reaching their destinations. The last and final layer of defense is with user training. No matter how good the technology is to stop these types of attacks, the best technology to completely stop these attacks is having the users of these email systems trained with the information they need to be successful in knowing what email is phishing or not.
