Developing Engaging Academic Program Review Virtual Experiences

Abstract: Due to the importance of program reviews and the differences that may exist in institutional reporting processes, this presentation will provide an in-depth overview of one potential approach to conducting virtual program review presentations. Specifically, this presentation will focus on the annual program review processes utilized by an online campus. An overview of the format of the online campus’s virtual program review sessions will be provided and an explanation of the reporting structure will be shared. Particularly, a description of how administrative faculty report their program’s strengths, challenges, and future directions and the collaborative discussions that result from these presentations will be presented. Further, administrative faculty perceptions of this current program review format will be provided and potential future modifications of the program review process will be examined. Essentially, this presentation will engage attendees by providing an overview of the virtual program review process utilized by an online campus that offers undergraduate through doctoral degree offerings. To better understand the program review process, this presentation will provide an overview of the: 1) importance of holding annual program review meetings, 2) best practices to facilitate virtual program review sessions, and 3) opportunities for enhancing virtual program review sessions.
