Workshop 1: Writing Instructional Content for Learnability
Oct. 15, 2018
1:00 PM-4:30 PM
Review learning content and you'll often see things that make it more difficult to learn. Content written at the wrong level or for the wrong audience. Or worse yet, for no particular audience. Content that is unclear, wordy, or difficult to understand. The list goes on… The good news is that research provides instructional, writing, and information design principles that show us how to make it easier to learn from instructional content. In this hands-on session, participants will apply research-based tactics from Dr. Shank's Write and Organize for Deeper Learning book to make instructional content: Clearer and easier to understand, Easier to learn, and Easier to remember and use. These tactics make instructional content is easier to learn and use. Bring a laptop and a short portion of your own content in a digital format so you can edit it. Leave with better content! (People who do not wish to use their own content can work with others so these requirements are optional).
