Abstract: Organizations can directly and indirectly create formal and informal learning experiences for their employees, but how to what extent do employees perceive this support? A Workplace and Learning survey was created and validated in terms of reliability, and two underlying constructs were identified that measure perceptions about the extent to which an employee's job promotes learning; specifically, 1) perceptions of organizational and managerial support and 2) perceptions of the requirements of the job role itself. These two constructs had a statistically significant relationship (and effect size) with variables such as gender, introversion / extroversion, and likelihood of one's job to provider transferable skills, but no relationship with variables such as education, job title, and years of work experience. This research is in progress, and opportunity exists to refine this instrument.
