Abstract: The goal of this research study is to create a valid and reliable instrument that can be used to measure empathy in relation to virtual reality (VR) in order to address an unproven popular claim; that VR is the ultimate empathy machine. This study is both significant and innovative as it takes a multidimensional approach to designing a new survey that can not only be used to measure the relationship between empathy and VR, but to find out what aspect of empathy might be related to a VR intervention.
