Abstract: Current literature illustrates the many types of roles video can play in education. In education today, the roles that videos play in courses include presenting content, enhancing social and instructional presence, exhibiting models of behavior and facilitating review and reflection. While the use of video has become widespread in education, it's important to note that its use is not without criticism, such as not being used optimally. Future research will need to continue to explore how best to use video, especially with new developments of augmented and virtual reality, 360-degree video, and mobile and just-in-time learning.
