Abstract: Language class observation studies were started to investigate the relationship between teaching and learning in a language classroom when Communicative Language Teaching became predominant as a language teaching theory Among several of the observation schemes, one of the highly validated methods was Communicative Orientation of Language Teaching initiated by N Spada and M Fröhlich This method, however, is not commonly used by language teachers because of its time-consuming procedures To overcome this shortcoming, the author, in collaboration with other researchers, has designed a new video-on-demand online platform named CollaVOD and an accompanying mobile version named Mobile COLT Mobile COLT facilitates real-time class analysis using a Windows tablet Immediately after the class is over, it can quantitatively display the features of the class This paper expounds the functions of Mobile COLT and how it can be used for lesson studies and teacher development
