What concerns faculty about teaching online: The effect of organizational structuration to teaching online
Abstract: Understanding the recursive nature of the social system on faculty, especially those seeking tenure and how that is enacted by the faculty within an academy provides a broader perspective on the nature of technology deployment. This understanding informs the nature of professional development and changes needed in the IT environment to both support teaching staff and to provide tools that are used in creative ways. It is therefore useful to understand the motivations or hindrances to course management systems (CMS) adoption and advanced use. This study investigated the concerns of the recently tenured in a private research university. Their concerns are the outgrowth of the social system that informs their working conditions, career aspirations, and teaching style.
