Abstract: The current study aims to answer the following research questions: how is Twitter being used within higher education, and what are the best practices for implementing Twitter into a course within higher education? A qualitative synthesis research design was used for this study. A total of 68 articles were analyzed to determine a list of best practices for incorporating Twitter within a college or university course. The findings revealed that in order for Twitter to be an effective tool for learning in the classroom, educators need to utilize four best practices. These best practices are as follows: 1) Assign a number of required tweets, 2) Classify and model appropriate tweets, 3) Provide training and, 4) Allow for timely feedback.
